Florida Golf Trip

On Friday 19th June a group of 3rd, 4th and 5th years left for Florida to play golf on some of the best courses in the USA.  The boys stayed in private villas in the Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club, each villa had great facilities including a private swimming pool.

On Sunday the boys loaded up their golf buggies and played 18 holes on the Southern Dunes course. The temperature was in the 90’s and the high humidity meant drinking lots of water, the course was challenging but great fun.

On Monday and Tuesday the boys went to Wet n’ Wild and Universal Studios, you can’t go to Florida and not experience some of the theme parks. The boys tried out all the rides in the Islands of Adventure theme park, the staff feet stayed firmly on the ground!

On Wednesday the boys played the exclusive Lake Nona Golf Club and marvelled at the millionaire homes dotted around the lake. This is one of the best courses in Florida and playing it was a great experience.

The highlight of the trip was getting to play Tiger Wood’s home course, Isleworth. The Tavistock Cup is played each year on the Lake Nona and Isleworth courses, the teams are made up of the professional golfers who live around both golf courses.

The boys were given a warm welcome and were allowed to use the locker rooms that Tiger, Darren Clarke and other famous professionals use.  The course was magnificent and only a Florida thunderstorm stopped the boys playing a second 18 holes. On the Friday the boys played a final 18 holes in Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club before departing for the airport and an 8 hour flight home.

The Florida golf trip 2009 was exhausting but exhilarating, staff and pupils enjoyed a once in a lifetime experience. Congratulations and thanks to the organiser Mr G McStay.
